Background

Y-PEER Puntland is embarking on implementing new approaches to sustainable development. Today’s development challenges are getting increasingly complex and interconnected. Often, they cannot be addressed by traditional sector approaches. Innovative approaches and solutions are thus called for, and the organization is starting work differently.

We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated Library Officer to join our team. As a library officer, you will perform a range of duties such as cataloging library resources, maintaining library records, and making them available to users.

For this position, you will have to demonstrate outstanding interpersonal skills, as a great part of the job will involve interacting with the local community including youth, parents, students, and young children. The ideal candidate should also possess in-depth knowledge of library database systems, as well as excellent communication and organizational skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Lend and collect books, periodicals, videotapes, and other materials at circulation desks.
• Enter and update patrons' records on computers.
• Sort books, publications, and other items according to established procedure and return them to shelves, files, or other designated storage areas.
• Inspect returned books for condition and due-date status, and compute any applicable fines.
• Maintain records of items received, stored, issued, returned, and file according to the system used.
• Send out notices and accept fine payments for lost or overdue books.
• Repair books, using mending tape, paste, and brushes.
• Assist in the preparation of book displays.
• Strong IT skills and familiarity with the use of databases and the internet
• Team working and management skills.
• Assessment of resources and library users' needs.
• Presentation and verbal communication skills.
• Subject-specific knowledge or expertise in a particular function, for example ICT resources or resource ordering.

Education and Experience Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
• Bachelor's degree in Library Science is preferred.
• A minimum of 1 year experience working in a library.
• Excellent IT skills and knowledge of library databases.
• Outstanding organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
